Enter The Snorlax Pt.1

I restarted my idea for my documentary. I’ve decided to make it a series instead of 1 loooong body of work. Feast your eyes on part 1! I’ll be adding on parts bi monthly or monthly if possible.

Anime Update

So lately I’ve been into watching slice of life anime and I have two series that I’d like to recommend.

The 1st series is Welcome To The N.H.K., which is at the top of my list for anime titles I’ve viewed this year. During the season (Yes, there’s only one -__-) you follow the main character Sato as he fights his Hikikomori syndrome (which is being a hermit for the most part). He believes that there is an evil organization called the N.H.K, Nihon Hikikomori Kyōkai is plotting on keeping him a Hikikomori. His delusional idea of the world being built on conspiracies helps the development of his character and those around him. The plot develops at a very good pace and there are many curve balls thrown during it’s progression which will keep you on your toes throughout the season.

Pros
Amazing English dubbing
A plot that makes sense
Character development
Anime parody
Comedy
Characters you can relate to
Soundtrack = awesome

Cons
There needed to be another season (I don’t want to read the manga)
The artwork gets lazy on some scenes
The flashback scenes could have showed us more about the characters history/past

Rating 5/5

The other series that has made it on to my top list is Genshiken: The Society for the Study of Modern Visual Culture. The story begins with Sasahara, one of the main characters looking to join a college club at Shiiou University. He’s skeptical a first but later decides to join Genshiken, a club that appreciates and studies the development of manga, video games, and anime. There are many parodies throughout the seasons, if you don’t catch at least one…you suck lol. The goal of the anime is to take you through the lives of Otaku, with a satirical twist. I found myself getting consumed, and a little obsessed with the anime. I even bought the 2 season collection when I went to San Japan ^__^. The story doesn’t finish after season two, it continues in the manga. The general PLOT is pretty simple, but entertaining. They need to gain members for the club, relationships, jobs, graduating, self identification, and entering their dōjinshi (erotic manga) into comic fests. Sounds simple right? Well, if you’ve been through or have partaken in any of this, you’ll see its NOT lol Season 1 and 2 are available on line!

Pros
Smooth character development
Out of this world comedy
Parody
Characters you can’t dislike
Relatable scenarios
Pop culture references
The series DOESN’T revolve around 1 character. Meaning there isn’t a MAIN character.
Soundtrack = awesome

Cons
Art could have been better in the OVA
The English dubbing was “OK”, it grows on you after a few episodes
The subs moved too fast sometimes (if watching it online) so you’re forced to watch in English

Rating: 5/5
